The measure was announced on Wednesday, July 23.

"This prohibition is a precautionary step to assure the protection of the health and safety of our swimmers," said George Gorman, regional director for the State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

Results from additional water quality testing will be reviewed to determine when swimming will once again be permitted.
